Does It Pay to Peer?

Recently, Logicomm has been invited to join a couple of peer networks, both run by consultants for whom I have a great deal of respect. Both charge fees, although one, we'll call 'Group A' charges a mostly nominal monthly fee, while the other, Group B, charges significantly more and bills on an annual basis.

Group A holds meetings via conference call, with the consultant actively moderating the call, on a monthly basis. Group B holds quarterly face-to-face meetings around the country, and limit… Continue

Just who are you? Do your customers know?

With so much talk on the economy as of late I think that we all agree that this is a good time to be an MSP. We know that companies can turn to our services to lower their costs of supporting their IT support requirements. I think that the big question that many MSPs are asking is not just "how" do we find these opportunities but once they are found, how do we close them? This is a place where Do IT Smarter can help.

I recently read an article in Inc. Magazine (if you don't read this magazine a… Continue

Saving Money with Managed Services

In last month's article I mentioned that the competitive landscape is getting crowded for managed services providers. This month I wanted to take a quick look at why this is the case. The benefits of the MSP model are easy to see - with product margins slipping and spending on IT projects down, a recurring revenue model that still has good margin potential is an obvious choice. But why would customers want to consider managed services? I recently did a presentation on this topic where I covered… Continue

Why are we working so hard?

Start with the end in mind:

I love this story about an American businessman that took a vacation to a small coastal Mexican village. The American began talking with one of the Mexican fisherman.

He asked, “How long did it take you to catch these large fish?”

The Mexican replied “it only took me a little while” so the American asked, “Why didn't you stay out longer and catch more fish?” The Mexican replied, “I have enough to support my family and give some of the fish to my friends”.

The Amer… Continue

Doug: Forgive me for not responding sooner...for some reason, I thought I had. I'd love to take you up on your gracious invitation. As we get closer, we'll work out details. Jim
Seymour: Most of what I've seen in terms of MSP centric lead generation has smelled pretty fishy. I'm not aware of a reputable firm that's focused in this area. MSP Mentor (http://www.mspmentor.net), Mike Cooch (http://www.smbitpros.com) both have...
We have looked at a number of programs.. One in particular that sounds good but verges on a scam is from a company in Texas called Sure Meeting. They guarentee appointments for a fixed upfront fee and time period. We are now, one year later, and t...

Can anyone recommend an organization that generates leads for the Managed IT Services sector? Ideally, their compensation would be based on an initial fee and they would share in revenues.
Jim, I look forward to meeting you at the MSP Alliance event in Las Vegas. Our office is headquartered in San Diego. If you have time while you are in San Diego I'd like to take you to lunch and have you tour our NOC. Let me know if you are inter...
Great comments, Jim. Here at The I.T. Pros we continue to refine our SLA's, processes, and procedures. The refinement affords us the opportunity to lower our prices without impacting margin or jeopardizing our service levels. Service revenue remai...
Now that we're all comfortably(?) into Q2 of what is turning out to be a challenging year (to be polite), I revisited your comments, Doug, and Lane's response as well. After listening to customers and prospects, and watching what they are going t...
